NORMAN – The No. 18 Oklahoma wrestling team fell to No. 22 Northern Iowa, 30-12 inside McCasland Field House on Saturday night.
Six Panthers secured bonus-point victories, helping Northern Iowa improve their record to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 action while Oklahoma fell to 5-5 overall and 2-4 in league duals.
In the 125-pound bout, Conrad Hendriksen got the Sooners on the board first, defeating UNI’s No. 30 Trever Anderson behind a pair of takedowns and an escape, 7-6. At 133, Jace Koelzer dropped to No. 23 Julian Farber in a 9-1 major decision.
OU’s Kaden Smith was defeated by No. 6 Cael Happel via 21-6 tech fall before No. 32 Willie McDougald answered for the Sooners with a 3-2 win over Cael Rahnavardi.
No. 31 Jared Hill wrestled at 157 pounds for the second straight night but was defeated by UNI’s Jason Kraisser by major decision, 13-1. In the 165-pound bout, No. 28 Cael Carlson regained some momentum for OU, scoring two second period takedowns in a 7-6 win over RJ Weston.
In the first ranked matchup of the night, No. 29 Tate Picklo was pinned by No. 31 Jared Simma at 4:01. At 184, OU’s Carson Berryhill made his season dual debut but fell to No. 1 Parker Keckeisen in a 22-6 technical fall.
The matchup at 197 pounds saw another Sooner make his dual debut, as freshman Ryan Nichols and UNI’s No. 23 Wyatt Voelker took the mat. The result ended in Voelker picking up his second fall of the season, pinning Nichols at 4:22.
To close out the dual, OU’s heavyweight No. 11 Josh Heindselman scored a key takedown in sudden-victory defeat No. 16 Tyrell gordon, 4-1.
