TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The top-ranked Oklahoma men's golf team shot a 1-under 287 in the Seminole Intercollegiate's final round to finish the event at 12-under and alone in third place. The bronze finish gives the Sooners their fifth top-five finish of the season and 18th in their last 19 tournaments.
"We didn't have our best stuff today for sure," head coach Ryan Hybl said. "But we're just getting started for the spring and we'll bounce back."
Patrick Welch (209, -7) continued his hot streak dating back to last fall, finishing in a tie for fourth at the par-72, 6,965-yard Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club. The seventh-ranked player in the country carded an even-par 72 to finish the tournament at 7-under and notch the third top-five finish of his Oklahoma career. After winning the East Lake Cup in October and leading the Sooners this week, Welch has emerged as a leader for Hybl's team.
All-American Garett Reband (213, -3) shot up the leaderboard with a 68 (-4) on Sunday afternoon to grab a share of 11th in his first 54-hole event of the season. The redshirt senior was efficient on the back nine, sinking four birdies, four pars and one bogey to move up from 31st and secure the 20th top-20 finish of his illustrious career. More impressively, he continues his streak of 54-hole tournaments at par-or-better, as he has finished even or under-par at every 54-hole event since March 2019.
"Patrick had a really solid week from start to finish and Garett finished his round off today in a nice fashion, which is always great to see," Hybl said.
Logan McAllister (215, -1) carded a 73 (+1) to finish under-par at the Seminole and earn the sixth top-20 finish of his career. The juniors' top-20 finish rate of 60 percent is the best on the Sooners' roster, as he continues his streak of top-20 finishes, which now stands at four.
Redshirt senior Quade Cummins closed his tournament with a 2-over 74 to finish T26. Thomas Johnson rounded out the Oklahoma lineup with a 77 (+7) to finish at 9-over across 54 holes and in a tie for 56th.
Jonathan Brightwell finished as the runner-up among unattached golfers, firing a 6-over 222 over the three-day event to finish T39.
The Sooners are back in action on March 1-3 at the Cabo Collegiate at TPC San Antonio.
