NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head men’s gymnastics coach Mark Williams announced the program’s 2024 schedule Thursday, highlighted by five home meets inside McCasland Field House, including the season opener against Air Force on Jan. 13 and the MPSF Championships on April 6.
The Sooners will face Air Force in the season opener on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. at McCasland Field House. OU’s home slate also includes meets against Ohio State and Arizona State on Feb. 3, California on Feb. 10 and Navy on March 9.
OU will face reigning national champion Stanford twice (at Rocky Mountain Open on Jan. 20 and in Palo Alto, Calif., on March 16), 2023 NCAA runner-up Michigan on the road on March 2 and last season’s NCAA third-place finisher Illinois on the road on Jan. 27. The Sooners also travel to compete at Simpson College on Feb. 17.
“We’ve put together a very challenging schedule, facing the top three teams at NCAA Championships last season – Illinois, Michigan and Stanford, twice – all away from home,” Williams said. “We’re excited to be hosting the conference championships in Norman at the end of the regular season, and then finishing up with the national championships at Ohio State. Our away schedule, competing at Illinois, at Michigan and at Stanford, creates really difficult competitions where we’re going to have to be at our best during the regular season. Those will be events where we’ll have to rise to the occasion knowing those are very good teams, and not getting to face them at home makes it a little more challenging. Obviously, we try to maintain a ranking that places us in the top group going into nationals.”
Following the Jan. 13 opener, OU will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., for the annual Rocky Mountain Open at the Air Force Academy. The Sooners close January with a road meet against Illinois in Champaign, Ill.
Oklahoma will be home at McCasland Field House for back-to-back weekends to begin February. The Sooners play host to Ohio State and Arizona State in a tri-meet on Feb. 3 at 6 p.m., then welcome California on Feb. 10 for a 2 p.m. start. OU goes on the road again to face Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. It will be Oklahoma’s first visit to Simpson College, which joined NCAA gymnastics last year.
The Sooners then break for 2024 USA Gymnastics Winter Cup, which will be held Feb. 23-25 in Louisville, Ky. Individuals who qualify for the event will compete to secure spots at the 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Championships and selection to the U.S. Senior Men’s National Team.
Oklahoma begins March with a road meet against Michigan on March 2 in Ann Arbor, Mich. OU closes the regular season at Stanford and against California in a tri-meet on March 16 in Palo Alto, Calif.
The MPSF Championships return to Norman and McCasland Field House for the first time since 2019. The Sooners won the 2019 title, their eighth of nine consecutive MPSF championships.
The 2024 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championships will be held April 19-20 at Ohio State’s Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio.
