CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Oklahoma freshman Sasha Bogonosiuk (boh-guh-NOH-sook) was named the 2026 national Rookie of the Year by the College Gymnastics Association Thursday night at the pre-NCAA Championships awards banquet.

The Rookie of the Year award is presented annually to the freshman gymnast whose immediate impact and breakthrough performances shaped the NCAA season.

Bogonosiuk, who was also named the MPSF Freshman of the Year, is the only freshman nationally to rank among the top 8 nationally on three events. He ranks fourth on floor exercise (13.900 NQA), sixth on vault (14.138 NQA) and eighth on parallel bars (13.625 NQA).

The Buffalo Grove, Ill., product has competed in six meets this season and scored 14.100 or higher on four vaults, making him the only freshman in the country to score 14 or better on vault four times. Bogonosiuk’s season-high 14.550 is tied for the second-highest vault score in the nation this season (five-hundredths off the nation-leading scores) and is the top mark by a freshman. On floor exercise, he has demonstrated consistency, scoring 13.650 or higher in all six routines this season, registering a career-high 14.300 at the MPSF Championships on April 4. He is the second highest-ranked freshman on parallel bars, behind only teammate Nathan Roman.
