NORMAN – Oklahoma men’s gymnastics redshirt freshman Arthur Ballon was named the MPSF Freshman of the Week for the second time this season after his performance in OU’s win over Illinois Saturday night, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced Tuesday.

Ballon notched a career-high 13.900 on floor exercise and a 14.000 on vault to lead Oklahoma to a 330.700 to 325.500 win over Illinois at McCasland Field House. He placed second on floor exercise in the meet, and his score was 0.35 points higher than his previous high this season. Ballon is ranked 12th nationally on floor exercise (13.617 average) and vault (14.183 average), helping pace OU, which leads the nation on both events.

This is Ballon’s second MPSF Freshman of the Week award this season and OU’s fifth. Ballon was also named Freshman of the Week, senior Brigham Frentheway was named Gymnast of the Week and junior Ignacio Yockers was named Specialist of the Week on Jan. 14, and Francisco Velez Belendez was named Freshman of the Week on Jan. 21.
