BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Henderson State increased its advantage at the 2024 Great American Conference Women’s Golf Championships to 14 strokes while two – the Reddies’ Jinna Boonbumroongsuk and Arkansas Tech’s Claire Orcutt – share the individual lead after 36 holes from The Club at Forest Ridge.
The Reddies posted the second-best team score of the day as they moved one step closer to a fourth-straight GAC Championship title. Boonbumroongsuk’s 4-over par 76 moved her up two spots into the share of first place. The Reddies’ low round of the day came from Felisa Sajulga. She carded a 3-over round and moved up six positions into seventh. A second-round 8-over 80 left Allie Bianchi, the GAC Player of the Year in a three-way tie for third, three strokes in back of the lead. Lily Nelson also shot an 8-over 80.
Orcutt’s second round 1-over 73 represented the lowest score of the day for the Golden Suns by six shots. She made four birdies in her round. Ellen Spigner shot a 10-over 82 and placed 10th. Averi Mickelson and Jaylee Castro added 9-over 81s.
Southwestern Oklahoma State dropped back to third and Harding closed to within two of the Bulldogs. Freya Sala and Rebecca Lau registered the best rounds for the Bulldogs with matching 6-over 78s. Sala enters the final round in sixth place. First-round leader Megan Brown posted a 9-over 81 to share third.
The Lady Bisons produced the best team score of the second round, one shot better than Henderson State. All four counting golfers turned in rounds in the 70s, the only team in the field to achieve that feat on the day. GAC Freshman of the Year Sydney Kincade paced Harding with a 3-over 75. She moved up 10 positions and inside the top 10. For the second-straight day, Brenda Sanchez and Kodie Winnings shot matching 78s. They share 11th with Nelson.
Oklahoma Baptist passed Southeastern Oklahoma State for fifth place, followed by Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Rangers’ Romane Lacoste finished her day with two birdies in her final four holes as part of a 3-over 75. She joined Bianchi and Brown in a tie for third.
Southern Nazarene, Arkansas-Monticello and Southern Arkansas rounded out the team standings. The Blossoms’ Chiara Sturaro recorded the low round of the day, an even-par 72. She made four birdies in her final six holes. After sitting in a tie for 29th after Sunday’s first round, her 10-shot improvement saw her climb into a tie for eighth..
Tuesday’s final round begins at 8 a.m. All women’s teams will start off of the first tee.
