RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – Ben Lorenz and Jase Summy fired under-par rounds as No. 15 Oklahoma closed round one of the NCAA Rancho Santa Fe Regional in fourth place.

The pair of Sooners were two of just 10 golfers in the 14-team, 75-player field to score in the red in Monday’s opening round at the 54-hole tournament, which serves as the preliminary event to the NCAA Championship.

Oklahoma (4, +4) signed for a 284 at the par-70 course and will enter Tuesday’s second round one shot above the cut line, as the top five teams and the low individual not on a qualifying team will attend the NCAA Championship after three rounds this week. Oklahoma has advanced through the regional stage every year since 2011, the second-longest streak in the nation.

The third-seeded Sooners trail leaders sixth-seeded North Florida (1, -3) by seven strokes as the leaderboard is tight, with eight teams within 13 shots of the lead. Cal’s Sampson Zheng posted the day’s low round, a 4-under 66.

Lorenz (T6, -1) opened his day with a birdie on the first hole, followed by another on the par-5 third to get to 2-under early. A bogey on the ninth was remedied by a third birdie on No. 11, moving him back into the top five. The Peoria, Ariz., product posted a bogey on the 17th to drop into sixth with Summy at 1-under par.

Summy (T6, -1) joined Lorenz with a birdie on the first hole. He added two more birdies on Nos. 6 and 11, but a pair of bogeys on the eighth and 17th dropped him to 1-under and three back of the lead.

Drew Goodman and Luke Kluver fired matching 73s (+3) and share 31st. Goodman finished fifth and second in the 2022 and 2023 regionals, respectively.

True freshman Ryder Cowan wrapped up the scorecard with a 74 (+4) and is in 43rd.

The Sooners will tee off with West Virginia (T5, +5) and San Diego (T5, +5) on Tuesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring for all NCAA Regionals is provided on Golfstat.

Oklahoma has played in an NCAA Regional in each of the last 13 seasons. It has won six NCAA Regionals in school history, including victories in 2015, 2018 and 2022 under head coach Ryan Hybl.
