RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the women’s and men’s cross country runners of the week for the fifth week of the 2024 season. Oklahoma Baptist’s Sophia Strange captured the women’s accolade and East Central’s Peter Kipkemboi won the men’s honor.

#theGAC WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK – Sophia Strange, Sr., Oklahoma Baptist, Houston, Texas
Strange turned in a fourth-place finish at the DBU Old Glory Gallop to earn her third Runner of Week of the season. She finished in a time of 17:21.9, only 16 seconds behind the individual champion. Her time ranks as the second-fastest of her career. The Bison placed 10th in the 46-team event.

#theGAC MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK – Peter Kipkemboi, Jr., East Central, Eldoret, Kenya
Kipkemboi led the No. 8 Tigers to their second-straight team title at the DBU Old Glory Gallop. He claimed third place in the individual competition by completing the 8K course in a time of 23:56.7. He broke the 24-minute barrier for the second time in his career. The Tigers placed their five scoring runners inside the top 14.
