RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the men’s track & field athletes of the week for the opening week of the outdoor season. Harding’s Brady Axtell earned the track honor while his teammate, Spencer Helms, claimed the field accolade.

#theGAC MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Brady Axtell, So., Harding, La Porte, Texas
At the Harding Invitational, Axtell placed third in the steeplechase with a time of 9:54.39. The time ranks third in the conference and 23rd nationally. He ran the opening leg of a Bison 4×400-meter team that finished fourth with a time of 3:46.37.

#theGAC MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Spencer Helms, Gr., Harding, Lawrenceville, Georgia
Helms won a pair of events and took second in a third at the Harding Invitational. He took first in the shot put with a best effort of 15.36 meters. He won the discus with a throw of 55.69 meters, a mark that earned him an NCAA Provisional mark and ranks as the best throw thus far in Division II. He placed as runner up in the hammer throw, 50.50 meters.
