RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the men’s soccer players of the week for the opening week of the 2024 season. Newman’s Alberto Romano claimed Offensive Player of the Week while Fort Hays State’s Ibrahim Madad and Jorge Valentin won Defender and Goalkeeper of the Week.

Romano scored twice on his three shots on goal in the Jets’ 4-0 home victory against Southwest Baptist. He scored off of a deflection in the 13th minute to open the scoring. In the 23rd minute, he successfully converted a penalty kick for his first brace as a Jet .
#theGAC/MIAA MEN’S SOCCER DEFENDER OF THE WEEK – Ibrahim Madad, D, Fort Hays State, Gr., Casablanca, Morocco
Madad played all 180 minutes for the week, helping FHSU to a 2-0 start to the season. The Tigers allowed only 7.5 shots per match for the week, only two shots on goal overall and just one goal. In the 88th minute against Rockhurst, he came up with the winning goal when he converted a corner kick from Tadhg Walsh
#theGAC/MIAA MEN’S SOCCER GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK – Jorge Valentin, GK, Fort Hays State, Gr., Simancas, Spain
Valentin picked up the shutout win in a 1-0 result against Upper Iowa on Sunday in Kansas City. He had to make one save in the 19th minute to pick up his first victory and shutout as a Tiger.
