RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the men’s soccer players of the week for the eighth week of the 2024 season. Newman’s Alberto Romano won Offensive Player of the Week. Fort Hays State’s Jeremiah Johnson claimed Defender of the Week and the Tigers’ Ben Dixon and Wouter Van der Borch shared Goalkeeper of the Week.

#theGAC/MIAA MEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Alberto Romano, F, Newman, Sr., Cancún, Mexico
Romano tallied four goals across two Jet victories. Against Ouachita Baptist, he registered a hat trick in the 4-1 win. He leveled the match, 1-1, on a 37th-minute penalty kick. He converted a second penalty kick in the 74th minute. He completed the hat trick with an 83rd-minute goal. Against Harding, he opened the scoring with a 21st-minute tally.

#theGAC/MIAA MEN’S SOCCER DEFENDER OF THE WEEK – Jeremiah Johnson, D, Fort Hays State, Sr., Columbia, Missouri
Johnson played a combined 139 minutes in the Tigers’ dominating victories against Harding and Ouachita Baptist. In the 54th minute against the Bisons, he scored his second goal of the season. The Fort Hays State defense allowed a combined eight shots and just two on goal in two wins that moved the Tigers into first place with three games remaining.

#theGAC/MIAA MEN’S SOCCER GOALKEEPERS OF THE WEEK – Ben Dixon, Gr. & Wouter Van der Borch, Fr., Fort Hays State
Dixon and Van der Borch combined for two shutouts in the Tigers’ victories against Harding and Ouachita Baptist. Dixon started both games and appeared for a combined 74:15. He made two saves. Van der Borch entered at the start of the second half against the Bisons and earned the win. He played the final 60:45 against Ouachita Baptist.
