RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Volleyball Players of the Week for the second week of the 2021 spring season. Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Samantha Kuzma and Allie Hoang claimed the Offensive Player and Setter awards while Ouachita’s Lexie Castillow earned the Defensive Player honor.
GAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Samantha Kuzma, Southwestern Oklahoma State, MH, Fr., Portland, Texas
Kuzma turned in her best performance of the season as she notched 10 kills and hit .526 in the Bulldogs three-set victory against East Central. She did not commit an error against the Tigers. Her 10.5 points matched her career high, set previously against Southern Nazarene.
GAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Lexie Castillow, Ouachita, L, Jr., Greenwood, Arkansas
Castillow anchored the Tigers’ defensive effort in their five-set win against Southern Arkansas. She tallied 39 digs against the Muleriders. Ouachita held SAU to a .154 attack percentage. The 39 digs ranks as the high mark in the conference through the first two weeks of the season. She contributed to the offense by serving up three aces.
GAC SETTER OF THE WEEK – Allie Hoang, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Sr., Plano, Texas
Hoang tallied a GAC-leading 13.0 assists per set for the week after handing out 39 in Southwestern Oklahoma State’s sweep of East Central. The Bulldogs produced a .288 attack percentage, their sixth-highest mark since the start of the 2018 season. She matched the team lead with nine digs.
