RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s second Women’s Soccer Player of the Week awards of the 2021 spring season. Oklahoma Baptist’s Tori Kitchel earned the Offensive Player honor while Ouachita’s set of teammates – Hanna Thompson and Michele Snow – claimed the Defender and Goalkeeper accolades.
GAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Tori Kitchel, Oklahoma Baptist, F, Jr., Norman, Oklahoma
Kitchel came off the bench to account for four points in the Bison’s win against East Central on Saturday. She netted the game-winning goal in the 41st minute. She added assists on Kaylee Swaner’s and Madison Morgan’s second-half goals. After giving up the first goal, the Bison scored the final six goals of the match.
GAC DEFENDER OF THE WEEK – Hanna Thompson, Ouachita, D, So., Skiatook, Oklahoma
Thompson played a key part from the Tigers’ back line that held Southwestern Oklahoma State to just one shot on goal, a Bulldog penalty kick. She played the full 90 minutes and scored the game-winning goal with 35 seconds remaining in regulation.
GAC GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK – Michele Snow, Ouachita, So., North Richland Hills, Texas
Snow earned the win in net for Ouachita’s dramatic 2-1 win against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Sunday. The only goal she gave up came via a penalty kick in the 61st minute. The Tigers picked up a win against the Bulldogs for the first time in the last nine meetings, dating back to October 2015.
