RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the women’s soccer players of the week for the opening week of the 2024 season. East Central’s Brooklyn Meisner and Ximena Resendiz won Offensive Player and Defender of the Week. Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Rachel Brown earned Goalkeeper of the Week.
#theGAC WOMEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Brooklyn Meisner, F, East Central, Sr., Rowlett, Texas
Meisner scored the winning goal in the Tigers’ season-opening victory against Texas Woman’s on Thursday. In the 64th minute, she converted off a pass from Emily Cavazos. Less than three minutes later, Haleigh Goodson added an insurance goal as Alyssa Taramona earned her first win as Tiger head coach.
#theGAC WOMEN’S SOCCER DEFENDER OF THE WEEK – Ximena Resendiz, D, East Central, Jr., Mesquite, Texas
Resendiz played all 180 minutes in the Tigers’ matches against Texas Woman’s and UT Tyler. The Tigers registered a shutout in a season opener for the first time since 2018. She played lock-down defense and made crucial tackles in both contests. She assisted on Abbie Morris’ second-half goal against UT Tyler.
#theGAC WOMEN’S SOCCER GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK – Rachel Brown, GK, Northwestern Oklahoma State, Sr., Pomona, California
Brown registered the sixth shutout of her career as the Rangers opened the season with a 0-0 draw against Wayne State College. She made nine saves against the Wildcats, her most in a single game since she made nine saves against Southwestern Oklahoma State on November 3, 2022.
