NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head men’s golf coach Ryan Hybl announced Thursday that Cameron Cheek had signed with the Sooners as a member of the 2024 recruiting class.

Cheek, the 2023 Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour (OJGT) Player of the Year, joins Andrew Ramos, Clark van Gaalen, and Asher Whitaker to complete OU’s 2024 signing class.

“Cameron’s story is a great one for Oklahoma golf to be a part of,” Hybl said. “He was one of the best tennis players in the state before COVID happened, and then he went all in on golf. He’s learning the sport at a fast pace, and we’re looking forward to helping him grow and develop here at OU. Cameron is an incredible athlete and will grind to get better, which means he’ll fit in well with our program.”

The Owasso, Okla., product started playing competitive golf just two-and-a-half years ago after a decorated junior tennis career. He won three times on the OJGT in 2023 and once on the South Central PGA junior circuit. He tallied a trio of top-five and top-10 finishes over the last year and has risen up the ranks on the golf course.

The 6’4″ high school senior routinely carries 305-yard drives with a ball speed of over 180 miles per hour. He finished T15 at the Talor Gooch Foundation Junior Championship, where he was inside the top 10 entering the final day. Cheek is slated to be the fifth Oklahoma prep golfer on next year’s roster joining Ryder Cowan (Edmond), Jaxon Dowell (Edmond), Drew Goodman (Norman) and Jake Hopper (Norman).

The five newcomers will join the Sooners in the summer of 2024 ahead of the 2024-25 season.
