July 20, 2022, New York, N.Y. – The final roster is set for the third championship season of Athletes Unlimited Softball, which will run from July 29 to August 28 with all games returning to the Chicago area at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Ill. Athletes Unlimited Softball features 35 athletes with national team experience among its 60 competitors – including 19 former Olympians – playing 30 games over four weeks. Tickets can be purchased at auprosports.com/tickets, and all games will be broadcast live exclusively on ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN+ (full schedule below).
Athletes Unlimited Softball builds on the recent wave of momentum for women’s softball including Athletes Unlimited’s recent expansion – AUX Softball in San Diego – which drove a 74% increase in viewership, a +268% increase in social media engagement and a +783% jump in web traffic to www.auprosports.com over comparable periods the year before.
Led by All-World Team selections Dejah Mulipola and Haylie McCleney, 11 members of the 2022 Athletes Unlimited Softball roster competed earlier this month at The World Games in Birmingham, Alabama. Joining Mulipola and McCleney from Team USA are Hannah Flippen, Janae Jefferson, Amanda Lorenz, Bubba Nickles and Gwen Svekis, while Team Canada’s Alysen Febrey, Kelsey Harshman and Victoria Hayward and Team Puerto Rico’s Aleshia Ocasio will also compete.
Ocasio comes in as the defending champion, having won the 2021 Athletes Unlimited Softball crown. In addition, Danielle O’Toole will return to competition coming off her championship in the inaugural AUX Softball event held this June, as will AUX runner-up Rachel Garcia and GEICO Defensive MVP Sis Bates.
Jefferson joins Maggie Balint, Mia Davidson, Danielle Gibson, Rachel Lewis, Sydney Sherrill and Peyton St. George among players joining Athletes Unlimited fresh off completing their NCAA careers. Additional standout players competing in Athletes Unlimited this summer include Odicci Alexander, Sara Groenewegen, Erika Piancastelli and Anissa Urtez.

Like its other leagues, Athletes Unlimited Softball features a range of scoring innovations to bring athletes and fans a unique and intense version of the sport. Individual athletes earn points based on both team wins and individual performance and become the champions in team sports. Points are earned on every play and the leaderboard will change constantly. In addition, teams change each week, with the top four athletes in the standings serving as captains and drafting their teams. At the end of the season, the player with the most points is crowned as individual champion.
“Women’s softball is on the rise, and Athletes Unlimited is proud of the role we have played in building the sport while providing the very best professional experience for players anywhere in the world,” said Cheri Kempf, Senior Vice President, Athletes Unlimited. “We are looking forward to another thrilling championship season this summer featuring a world-class roster.”
