RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the softball players of the week for the penultimate week of the 2024 season. Oklahoma Baptist’s Adi Reese earned Player of the Week while Southern Arkansas’ Sydney Ward and Southern Nazarene’s Janie Worthington shared Pitcher of the Week.
#theGAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Adi Reese, 2B, Oklahoma Baptist, Sr., Whitewater, Kansas
Reese helped the Bison to a 5-0 week that included clinching the GAC regular-season title. She went 7-for-11 at the plate and produced a .714 on-base percentage. She tallied three hits and a stolen base in a doubleheader of Northeastern State. She drove in six runs against Henderson State, highlighted by a grand slam in the finale.
#theGAC SOFTBALL CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Sydney Ward, RHP, Southern Arkansas, Sr., Paris, Arkansas
Ward threw 12.0 scoreless innings inside the circle as part of the Muleriders’ three-game sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State. In her first outing, she recorded a four-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts – her third double-digit strikeout performance of the season. In game three, she limited the Rangers to a first-inning single in a 13-0 five-inning victory.
#theGAC SOFTBALL CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Janie Worthington, LHP, Southern Nazarene, Jr., Carnegie, Oklahoma
Worthington improved to 19-3 as she earned three wins in the Crimson Storm’s sweep of Ouachita Baptist. She threw 4.0 scoreless frames with seven strikeouts in a 13-0 game one win. She pitched 4.0 scoreless innings of their 6-2 game two win. She again struck out seven. In the finale, she blanked the Tigers over 4.2 innings of relief work and struck out six.
