RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Volleyball Players of the Week for the opening week of the 2021 spring season. Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Kaydee Honeycutt claimed the Offensive honor; Oklahoma Baptist’s Diana Carranza earned the Defensive award and Southern Nazarene’s Breckynn Myers garnered the Setter accolade
GAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kaydee Honeycutt, Northwestern Oklahoma State, OH, Jr., Marquez, Texas
Honeycutt helped the Rangers earn a GAC-opening victory as she collected 17 kills in the four-set triumph against East Central. She hit .333 in the victory. She added four blocks and an ace to finish with a match-high 20.0 points. She also tallied nine digs against the Tigers.
GAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Diana Carranza, Oklahoma Baptist, L, Jr., Lima, Peru
Carranza paced a stout Bison defensive effort in their season-opening victory against Southeastern Oklahoma State. She tallied a match-high 21 digs and the Savage Storm produced just a .178 attack percentage. She averaged 7.00 digs per set for the fourth time in her career, and just the second time in a three-set contest.
GAC SETTER OF THE WEEK – Breckynn Myers, Southern Nazarene, So., Rose Hill, Kansas
Myers led the Crimson Storm to a five-set, come-from-behind victory against Southwestern Oklahoma State as she notched a triple double with 47 assists, 14 digs and 12 kills. In 10 matches in 2019, she amassed a total of 20 assists. The win gave Crimson Storm head coach Kevin Ingram the 400th coaching victory of his 20-year tenure at Southern Nazarene.
