VOTING OPENS IN THE FIRST ROUND OF GREATEST GAC RECORD OF ALL TIME

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - On Thursday, the Great American Conference announced the 64 entrants into its Greatest Record of All-Time bracket. All 12 GAC schools had at least three selections and all 16 conference sports had at least one representative.

Selection and seeding for the records were determined by the following factors

  • The separation between the record and second place
  • How long the record has stood
  • Where the record stands in Division II

All voting takes place on the GAC's Twitter account

NOTABLE: Syrotchen’s throw as his home meet tops the GAC record book in this event. He owns the top 10 throws in GAC history. The top mark from a GAC thrower not named Syrotchen checks in a full nine meters (more than 30 feet) behind Syrotchen’s top attempt.

NOTABLE: Zabrowska not only set the league’s record for winning margin at the GAC Women’s Cross Country Championships, she set the championship record and the league’s 5K time record with a 16:44.75 mark. No other woman ever has broken the 17-minute mark.

NOTABLE: In Kristy Bayer’s final season as the Golden Suns head coach, she led her squad to an undefeated regular season as well as their their fourth GAC regular-season and tournament championships. They posted the best win-loss percentage in Division II (.972). No GAC team has won more than 21 games in a row.

NOTABLE: The Wonder Boys establish the league’s record for consecutive wins, 22, en route to winning the league’s regular-season title and earning the No. 1 seed in the Central Regional. NOTABLE: Rodgers produces a career average of 333.6 passing yards per game, an average that ranks as the third-best mark in NCAA Division II history and places him more than 50 yards per game ahead of second place in league history. He recorded 26 300-yard passing games in his 41 career games.

NOTABLE: Despite not getting to play in the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championships for a third-straight season, Dunn shatters the league’s single-season point total by 70 points. He scored at least 20 points in 26 of the Crimson Storm’s 32 games, no player in league history has recorded more than 18 20-point games in a season.

NOTABLE: Like Dunn, Dworsky also saw his record-breaking season end prematurely. He became the first GAC player to reach the 200- and 250-assist milestone in a single season as well as the first player in the league history to average at least 8.0 assists per game.

NOTABLE: Gum establishes the league’s single-season record for ERA with the first, and still only, qualifying ERA under 1.00 at 0.60. No Division II pitcher posted a lower single-season ERA between 2013 and 2017. Additionally in 2016, her .138 batting average against also sets a GAC record.

NOTABLE: When Southeastern Oklahoma State notches a 121-112 overtime victory against Harding, they do so by matching the NCAA Division II record most points in an overtime period, 28. The combined 47 points in the overtime period by the Savage Storm and Bisons set the DII record.

NOTABLE: The longest play from scrimmage in GAC history can not be broken as Southern Nazarene’s Gage Porter and Nate Walker connected on a 99-yard touchdown pass against Oklahoma Baptist, the 43rd 99-yard completion in NCAA Division II history.

NOTABLE: In playing the longest softball game in GAC history, Arkansas Tech’s Jalissa Gum and Henderson State’s Michelle Sorensen combined for 44 strikeouts, one shy of the NCAA Division II single-game record. Gum struck out 23 but Sorensen earned the win in the 3-2 game.

NOTABLE: Hearne, a two-time All-American and GAC Player of the Year, capped his 2014 season by claiming his sixth title in nine events at the GAC Championships. He won medalist honors by nine shots. His final round 7-under par 65 set the single-round record. No other GAC men’s champion has won by more than five shots.

NOTABLE: Powered by its flexbone offense, Harding has led the GAC in rushing all nine years. The Bisons ran for 5,128 in advancing to the semifinals NCAA Division II Football Championships.  After Harding, no GAC team has rushed for more than 3,500 yards in a season.

NOTABLE: At the NCCAA National Championships, Dos Santos sets the league’s single-game records for goals and points when he nets five tallies for 10 points in a 7-4 win against Houghton College. Only one other GAC player has even scored four goals in a game.

Her 68 points broke the prior record by 15 points. No GAC player has come within 11 points of her mark.

NOTABLE: Silva claimed the league’s first two Defensive Player of the Year as she averaged 5.0 steals per game. Only one other GAC player has even averaged 3.0 steals per game for their career. She owns the fourth-highest per game average in NCAA Division II history and the top average for any DII player to have started their career after 2003.

In only two instances has a GAC team even returned two punts in a game for touchdowns.

NOTABLE: Hearne produces the lowest 18-hole score by a GAC men’s golfer when he posts a 10-under par 62 in the final round of the GAC Preview to overcome a five-stroke deficit and claim medalist honors. Four golfers have carded rounds of 63 since Hearne’s 62.

NOTABLE: Leonard, the league’s only two-time Setter of the Year, also owns the GAC’s record for assists in a match. She dished out at least 1,000 assists in all four seasons. Her total 4,766 assists puts her more than 600 clear of second place.

NOTABLE: The Tigers won their third GAC Men’s Cross Country Championship title in four years by matching the best team score in meet history with 17 points. NOTABLE: In helping the Tigers claim their second GAC Men’s Soccer Championship title, Chigede netted seven game-winning goals, a total that ranked fifth in NCAA Division II. In GAC history, no other player has tallied more than five game-winning goals in a season.

NOTABLE: Fall led the GAC in rebounding three straight years and her 13.5 rebounds per game for her career leads the league by almost four rebounds per game. In 2012-13 she pulled down 430 rebounds, 102 more than any other GAC player totaled in one season.

NOTABLE: King’s record of 325 all-purpose yards in a game stands as one of just three GAC individual single-game record set in the league’s inaugural year yet to be topped. In the 53-43 contest against the Tigers, he caught 10 passes for 171 yards, returned six kicks for 144 yards and added 10 yards on a punt return

NOTABLE: At the 12-team Golfweek Fall Invitational that featured 10 nationally-ranked teams, Surtevall wins the medalist honor by seven shots with a three-round total of 7-under par 206. Her 54-hole total also ranks seven shots better than any GAC golfer in league history.

NOTABLE: In an 11-0 win against Oklahoma Panhandle State, the Rangers fire off 69 shots against the Aggies, breaking the GAC record by eight shots. In the dominating victory, Northwestern Oklahoma State did not allow Oklahoma Panhandle State to record even one shot.

NOTABLE: Skelton totals 54 digs in a contest against Arkansas-Monticello, the GAC record for both four-set matches and the overall record.  It ranks as the third-best total in a four-set match in NCAA Division II history. No GAC player has accumulated even 40 digs in a four-set affair.

NOTABLE: Allen laps the field in both career punt return yardage and return touchdowns. His 999 yards puts him 431 clear of second place while his six touchdowns doubles the second-best total in league history. Only six other players have even registered multiple punt return touchdowns in a career.

NOTABLE: The Muleriders shatter the league’s record for turnovers forced per game as the 26.8 average broke the record by 5.4 turnovers. They also broke the GAC record for steals per game. SAU ranked second in NCAA Division II in the category.

NOTABLE: Hadlock registered the second-most saves in NCAA Division II in 2016 with 156 in setting the GAC’s single-season mark.  In the five-year history of men’s soccer in the GAC, no other goalkeeper has had to make even 100 saves in a year.
