Labor Day Weekend-Enjoy your day off, you deserve it
Got a lotta Live Music this weekend. But first let me mention how I celebrated “National Dawg Day”. It started off slow enough, but got a lil’ more interesting in a hurry. My dawg Clover has not just been a good hunter, she is a service dawg. So I take her with me when I visit my friend Caroline. Caroline has early stage dementia. Clover will let Caroline pet her and love on her. It is just a joy to watch them interact. Heck, Clover won’t hardly let me pet her. And I feed her.
After a short visit inside with Caroline, I let her out in the 2 acre yard to hunt. Usually rabbits or squirrels. This time she got up under the house and tangled with a skunk. I called her out, loaded her back in the car on a blanket and headed home. Now, an important fact in this tail is that I can’t smell, at all, from birth. So, I can’t tell except for her rubbing her nose and eyes, just how bad it smells. I called in a favor from Bimbo Hale to come over and sniff test us. We tested positive. Thanks Bimbo, you are a great neighbor! I got her unloaded, in a bath with Dawn Dish soap, some dawg shampoo and finally with Summer’s Eve. I warshed my clothes, set my shoes out and took two baths just to be sure. I did NOT use Summer’s Eve!
What a Dawg Day celebration, right! That was Friday. Saturday Morning, I was on my first cup of coffee when I heard Clover fighting something out back. Yep, another skunk. Two days in a row! She killed this one! So, I removed “Dead” skunk from the yard with a shovel and then another round of baths, showers and laundry. I bought $10 of Pledge air freshener and the house smells like lemons now. I was home alone, Mom and Raymond were at Cedar Lake camping. Apparently, the stink was minimal and all is right in our world. Sunday was a day of worship and much needed rest. And, at 6am today, all is well!
Labor Day Weekend has Live music starting with “59 South” at Dawn’s Diner/Red Oak on the 1st, Thursday. Good food and great music. It starts about 6 pm. Then, Dawn’s Diner will take the Holiday weekend off and will be closed Friday and Sat. They work hard and need to rest and recharge.
The BIG event that has become one of the largest gathering in Oklahoma will be at Tuskahoma, Friday 1st, Sat. 2nd and Sun. 3rd. Choctaw activities are scheduled everyday for this festival. Stickball, Dances, the Princess competition, food, arts and crafts and Live Music. Clint Black will close out Sat. nite with his biggest country hits starting at 9 pm. Then, Sunday will feature Praise and Worship music. I know that my church, Faith Community Church of the Nazarene, will take a bus to enjoy the music that starts at 6pm with “The Lefevre Quartet”, 7pm “The Martins”, 8pm “Jason Crabb”, 9pm “We the Kingdom”. The weather predictions are for warm and dry. Take time to enjoy this family friendly event.
David Carbrey and “Butch Cavandish” are booked Friday and Sat. in Ft. Smith. Friday 2nd at JJ’s Grill from 7-10pm. Sat. 3rd, they bring their Red Dirt/Country music to Bricktown Brewery from 6-9pm. Ya might even hear Gram Parsons songs in the mix. Catch their show.
I-40 Dance and Music Hall will have “The Lawman Band”, on Thurs. 1st. Line dance lessons, too. Sat. 3rd, I-40 will have a crowd favorite, “The Stagemasters”, playing for the dancers. I say favorite because this band led by Terry Barnes knows how to play the right kinda music and try to keep everybody out on the dance floor and happy. There is a lotta talent on stage, too! Along with Terry, Randy Smith/vocals, Larry Hight/vocals-bass, and David Hoffpauir/vocals-guitar make up the band. Big Dance floor and a family friendly NS/ND venue. Crocky’s Cafe in Hackett will feature “Sam Rizzo” on Friday 2nd at 6 pm. Get ready for good music with a message. On Sat. 3rd, “270 West”-Randy Fennell, Larry Taylor and Scot Francis will play at Crocky’s for the first time. It will be a cool evening and music starts at 6 pm.
“Country Express” will have a chance to play for the dancers at the Ft. Smith Senior Activity Center on Friday 2nd at 6 pm. And then at the Spiro Eagles on St. 3rd. My Mom said that the dances will start at 7 pm and she likes that much better than 8 pm. I know that I’m usually asleep when Raymond brings her home from the dance.
