Live Music is moving Indoors

As much as I like the outdoor venues-Diner’s, Drive-ins and Dives, it’s time to move inside. It has been a good season for Live Music at outdoor events. Only a couple got canceled, No rain-No rainouts! When I get info about cancellations, I will pass it on. So please, bands, dancers and venues, let me know of any changes. It might keep the disappointments down to a minimum. Contact info below. It is comin’ up on my Favorite Oklahoma Holiday, Deer Season. Our first statewide buck season was 1954. Deer were scarce when I was a kid. The estimated number of deer statewide was only around 500. Almost like the Buffalo, the deer were hunted to extinction in OKlahoma. The Okla. Dept. of Wildlife began restoration efforts and regulated hunting seasons and numbers increased, slowly. That opens the door for one of my stories. I was making music at the “Infamous” Lou’s Triangle Club on the Talihina end of Skyline Drive. It was a hot spot for some of the several thousand hunters that invaded LeFlore County. The place was packed and I got a note from Lou to make an announcement. “Could the owner of the Red Chevy pickup please move it a lil farther from the building. The dancers can’t hear the band over the barking dawgs.” Apparently some hunters came to relax instead of going home. Running deer with dawgs was a great way to keep the deer moving, increasing the chances of harvesting a buck. Nevermind that it wadn’t legal to use dawgs, it was allowed with the understanding that they weren’t cast until the Thursday of Thanksgiving. For nine days ( Sat, before til Sun. after), Deer season was Oklahoma’s most celebrated holiday. Which brings me to my favorite meal of the year, Thanksgiving dinner. My prayers this year are that we can afford the turkey. Live Music! “The Stagemasters” are playing at the Ft Smith Senior Activity Center on Friday the 11th. Music starts at 7 pm. On Sat. 12th at 6 pm, they are scheduled to be at Crocky’s Cafe in Hackett. It is predicted to be cooler, maybe too cold to pick a guitar. Check before ya head out(479.638.8888).

“Grannie’s Nightmare” will be Rockin’ at Doug’s Redneck Haven in Howe. Sat. 11th, they kick off at 8:30 or so. Should be a good crowd with the temps down in the 20’s. GN are a favorite at Redneck Haven. Rocky says that “Grannie’s Nightmare” is the hardest working, R&R-n-ist, most interactive Lil Ole Band from Poteau! Check’em out.

“Oklahoma Moon” will get to play the “Big room” this Sat. 12th at Dawn’s Diner/Red Oak. Music starts about 6 OR whenever the boys get finished eating. Great band, beee-ut-ifull harmonies, all your Country favorites to listen to and dance with your Sweetheart! Only 1(one) sweetheart per cowboy, please. Check yer firearms and chainsaws at the door. Good food, good service, family-friendly, That’s Dawn’s in Downtown Red Oak. I-40 Dance and Music Hall has shut their doors and is in the process of moving. James and Carol will be hosting dances at the Ft. Smith Senior Activity Center. This Friday, the band will be “The Stagemasters”.
