The Spiro School Foundation for Excellence in Education held their annual Academic All-Star Banquet on Thursday, April 18, 2024. They recognized 10 senior, 25 junior, and 26 sophomore honor students and eight teachers.

The following Wrenetta Housden grants were given to eight Spiro teachers:

Chelsea Dodson - H.S. Yearbook Photography Expansion $3,480.86

Jessica Owens - Elementary “Generation Genius” Math and Science $1,795.00

Second grade teachers - Second Grade Magnetic Dry Erase Boards $1,300.73

Jordan Jones - New seating for Middle School/High School Library $1,154.93

Jeremy Harrison - Elementary Classroom Library $750

Shelia Morton - High School Life Skills Flexible Seating $400

Sherry King - Elementary Life Skills Calm Down Corner $349.81

Rita Broom - Middle School Thinking Spaces/Calming Places $1,098.16

Total-$10,329.49

The Johnson-O’Malley Program collaborated with the Foundation to fulfill the following grants:

Acie Conrad - Agricultural Class Food Science Materials $600

Diana Ridenour - Elementary Mystery Science $425

Rashel Maynard - High School Great Gatsby Hard Cover books $414.90

Kasandra Lovell - Freshman Class to see Romeo and Juliet $400

Angie Hammontree - Elementary Science Magazine $242.73

Michelle Stenhouse - Kindergarten Education Material for Classroom $164.95

Total-$2,247.58

All seniors wrote essays toward the following prompt: “How does social media affect teens?” College instructors graded the essays, and Laurel Blankenship was selected as top essay. She was asked to read it to the audience. Corbin Miller was awarded the Blankenship Athletic Scholarship.

Carl Albert State College President Dr. Jay Falkner presented a Scholars Program scholarship to Laurel Blankenship totaling over $11,600 as well as CASC Foundation scholarships with 8 credit hour tuition waivers per semester plus a $700 housing scholarship to eight senior Academic All-Stars.

A total of $19,500 in scholarships was awarded from the Marcella P. Moore Scholarship Fund this year to the Academic All Star seniors for their college education. Baylor Riley received the top scholarship of $3,000 with Karoline Davis, Ashtin Hobbs, and Joshua Hogan receiving $2,500, and the remainder of the seniors receiving $2,000 and $1,500 scholarships from the Marcella P. Moore Scholarship Fund.

Juniors: Davis Carter, Hailey Allred, Brooklyn Adams, Hailee Caldwell, Samara Keller, Joshua Ford, Jacob Locke, Brycen Graham, Kaylee Martin, Seth Carter, Chelsey Crutchfield, Kailey Seaton, Cody Douthit, McKayla Honeycutt, Alyssa Singleton, Akrissa Williams, Martin Hobbs, Anna Anglen, Liliauna Brisco, Porsha Granite, Tyson Covey, Ryan Restine, Keaton Cox, Keihara Marshall, and Matthew Jones.

Sophomores: Mark Newlin, Kylea Cobb, Ashton Brown, Kirk Fisher, Brynleigh Graham, Ava McLemore, Logan Ramos, Spencer Gist, Laylah Steele, Ameera Davis, Tatianah Bell, Corbie Buffington, Madison Caldwell, Aaliyah Harris, Tristan Martin, Samuel Jones, Katie Perdue, Montana Duvall, Kambri Bankston,

Eiana Graham, Cain Scott, Jaylynn Goss, Megan Avery, Kiana Craig, Logan McKinney, and Travis Moody.
