Davis Carter received a $3,500 Marcella P. Moore Scholarship from presenters Kelli Owens and Dustin Gist, 1995 SHS graduates.
The Spiro School Foundation for Excellence in Education held their annual Academic All-Star Banquet on Thursday, April 17, 2025. They recognized 12 senior, 19 junior, and 14 sophomore honor students and six teachers.
The following Wrenetta Housden grants were given to six Spiro teachers:
Angela Matthews, Elementary – “Butterflies, Bugs, and Plants. Oh My!” $160
Shaylee Woodside, Middle School – “Stem Powered Futures” $360
David Hogan, Middle School – “National Junior Honor Society Startup & Membership Dues” $765
Kelli Owens, Elementary – “Coding with Bee-Bots” $1,200
Amy Cumpton, High School – “iPads: Making Music Assessable in a Digital Age” $1,515
Lisa Gist, High School – “Touchscreen Chromebooks for Math” $6,000
A total of $20,000 in scholarships was awarded from the Marcella P. Moore Scholarship Fund this year to the Academic All-Star seniors for their college education. Davis Carter received the top scholarship of $3,500 with Hailey Allred and Brycen Graham receiving $2,500, and the remainder of the seniors receiving $2,000 and $1,500 scholarships from the Marcella P. Moore Scholarship Fund. Davis Carter was awarded the Blankenship Athletic Scholarship of $1,500. Carl Albert State College President Dr. Jay Falkner presented a Scholars Program scholarship to Joshua Ford totaling over $11,600 as well as CASC Foundation scholarships with 12 hour tuition waivers per semester plus a $700 housing scholarship to eleven senior Academic All-Stars.
