Musicians Flea Market/Downtown Poteau
This will be the first of many, I hope, chances to buy or sell musical instruments and musical accessories in a laid-back Fleamarket environment. Monday Feb 26th, from 10am til 4pm, it will take place at the Poteau Mainstreet Event Center, 307 Dewey Ave. just across the street from Warehouse Willie’s. It will be like a Flea market with 9×9 spaces available for $20, bring your own tables and chairs.
Now is the time to get rid of those heavy P.A. rigs, cords, pedals, stands and mics. Or buy a good startup system for a young garage band or a church praise team for a discount price. Everybody has that bag or box of not oft used equipment that will give some band a lil’ help up to the next level of playing Live Music. Just load the truck one last time and bring everything that you have outgrown that will give you more much needed space in your music room. And this will be a great place to promote your group. Bring your band’s t-shirts, CD’s, bumper stickers and even autograph some pics or take selfies with your fans. See ya there.
Let me reiterate again, the Friends of the Ranch Celebration is coming up on Thursday 15th at the Reynolds Center, 501 S. Broadway, Poteau. The 6:33 Recovery has evolved from just a few beds for the men’s year long treatment from addictions to a larger campus in Howe, Okla. that has 30 beds for men, fellowship/dining room, full kitchen, buildings for classrooms and now 30 beds for women. This Christ-centered yearlong program has helped many find their way to recovery and put many families back together. This is your chance to donate to this tried and tested recovery center. In this much needed growth in size and numbers, the budget has increased and any donation will be appreciated. The price of the ticket to the event will give you; BBQ supper, Praise and Worship service, a few words from Kane Riggs and Keynote speaker, Matt Spradley. It will be encouraging and informative on the War on addiction that takes place at Howe 6:33 and now, Spiro 6:33. All proceeds go for operating expenses for 6:33 Recovery Inc. For more
Info call- 918-658-2573. Oh ya! Supper is served at 6:30 and close with prayer at 8:30pm. Every family has someone that has addictions problems, come and check out this successful program. All glory goes to God. See ya there.
Live Music this week: Long-time friends “The Stagemasters” bring their Country sounds to Rooster’s on Garrison Ave. this Friday 16th. This band’s keepin’ it Country, Classic, that is. You can enjoy their music while ya git hot wings and a tall, cold one. Food is good. Music is better and it kicks off at 7pm.
“South 49” will be in Van Buren in the Vault 1905 Sports Grill. The old bank building on Main St. is becoming one of the hottest venues for Live Music in our area. The band will be offering up its own style of Outlaw, Red Dirt, Southern Country Rock. Music starts at 7pm.
“The Shady Oak Tribadours” play at the El Toro Grill and Cantina/Fort Smith on Sat. 17th for the supper crowd from 5pm til 8pm.This is probably your only chance to hear Coastal and Western music in this neck of the woods. Catch their show. Be sure to get a hug and a selfie with Scot. Be a Tribby.
“Rhythm Coalition”, Soul, funk, Red Dirt mixed with a lil’ jazz are the sounds that the band brings to the table. This week, they will be on stage at Ava’s/Fianna starting at 8pm. Catch their show. Just a warning, the music makes ya wanna pat your foot and dance.
Dawn’s Diner/Red Oak suffered for a couple of weeks after the 7 day single digit cold spell in January. And exhibiting the charitable nature of the musicians around here, “Big Marty and the Dirty Dogs” set out a donation bucket to go to the restaurant and recoup some of the income lost. Please keep that in mind when ya dine at Dawn’s. They serve some of the best food at affordable prices in the area. Pitch a lil’ in the bucket.
While Dawn’s Diner is on my mind, there will be two great nites of music this weekend. “59 South” will play the dance music on Friday 16th. Classic Country and Rock with an original by Randy Fennell thrown in for good measure. Sat. 17th, Keith Ingram will be there. I’m looking for more info on this singer. Both nights’ music starts at 7-10pm.
The hottest dancehall around is Muldrow City Limits. Dances are hosted by Shelia and David Keith and I love the fact that it is a NS/ND kind of place. That’s where my Mom, Wanda and Dance partner, Raymond will be boot-scooting. This Sat. 17th, a favorite band for this crowd of 80+ will be “Backcrowds”. This country/rock-a-billy group will play favorites and maybe a request or two. Music starts at 7pm.
Had a good conversation with Annie Kobus. She is a guitar player and big fan of Live Music. Annie has a fb page, The Red Dirt Blues Society, that helps promote, post videos and review shows that she gets to see and hear. Check the fb page out. I appreciate all the support that she offers. And I said guitar picker. I meant to say Serious picker. She is taking lessons from Gary Hutchison. Stealing hot licks is more like it. But the videos that she posts, shows the hard work and lessons are paying off. Thanks for all that ya do. That ain’t all I got to say, but it’s a good place to stop. Keep supporting Live Music.
