Come on Fall !
I don’t think I’ve ever hoped for Fall to come early. ‘Cept maybe for hunting season. But it goes from “mowing grass” season, right into tons of leaves turning and falling. Filling the yard and driveways with multi-colored landfill. I have a cordless leaf blower now but it ain’t as easy to use as it looks when ya see the pro landscapers use it. I wore and eat more of it than I blew off the drive. I know it’s part of the process and I am just blessed to be able to live til another beautiful Fall foliage event, but i’ll still whine a lil’. Whine over.
The pleasant opportunity that this time of year allows are the Fall Festivals. Music, dances, cars, quilts and BallOOns. And the short rides thru the mts. draped with every color of brown, red, yellow and orange on the way to the dance. So please don’t let my curmudgeonly attitude sway you from this unique S.E Oklahoma experience. Share it with friends. Heck, even with family. It really is my favorite time of year. More info on these family friendly events as they get closer.
Live Music this week: Dawn’s Diner/Red Oak has a different schedule which will include being closed on Sat. and Sunday. BUT that still leaves time for a dance on Friday. This Friday 23rd, “The Stagemasters” bring the very best in Country dance tunes. These good friends of mine, Randy Smith/vocals and guitar, Terry Barns/Drums, Larry Hight/Bass and David Hoffpauir/vocals and guitar bring years of experience to the dance and have a great show. It starts at 7pm. Make plans to be there.
Just across the line at Crocky’s Cafe/Hackett, Ark. “The Tribadours” with special guest Gregg Shively bring songs of love and faith for the Friday Nite Fire. Bring the whole family for this encouraging and uplifting show. Music starts at 6pm. Sat. 24th at 6pm, you can catch “The Stagemasters” and their samplin’ of Classic Country with a couple of originals in the mix. Weather will be tolerable to listen to the music while enjoying the good vittles.
It is a joy to see that “The Lawmen Band”will be on stage at the Ft. Smith Senior Activity Center on Cavanaugh Rd., this Friday 23rd. This band has several singers and some talented musicians for their Classic Country Show. It all starts at 7 pm.
“Cross the River, but not the line, catch “Backroads” at the Muldrow City Limits. This band is a favorite and will have a full dance floor. So get there early on Sat. 24th, git a good seat and Dance like nobody’s watching. Music starts at 7 pm.
“59 South” will be at Ava’s in Fianna on Friday 23rd from 7-11pm. Ava’s is a hot spot in Ft. Smith and this band is smokin’ hot. Good thing it’s all inside with an a.c. Don’t miss this.
“Bourbon Rain’ will be on the patio at La Heurta’s/Ft. Smith this Thursday 22nd. This band of brothers have only been together a short time but are picking up the right gigs and provin’ their worth. Lotta talent and experience makes the difference. Catch their show at 7pm. Oh, and it’s suppertime, too, so grab a bite of the good alimento.
And the hardest working band award this weekend goes to- “The Libby Starkes Band”. On Friday 23rd, Libby and band will be at the Cherokee Casino/Roland at 5pm. Then they magically appear at Rooster’s/ Ft Smith for the 10 pm crowd. Most won’t appreciate just how much effort that it takes to pull this off. Breaking down and moving equipment, setting back up and all with a smile on your face. But I do. Then, no time wasted, Libby and the band play at a political BBQ(Jack Carlton for County Commish) in Stilwell at 5pm on Sat. 24th. Libby always puts on a great show.
One of my favorite bands, playing my favorite music is “Rhythm Coalition”. This Sat. 24th, catch this show that has an entertaining mix of R&B,Rock, Red Dirt and several originals guaranteed to blow your mind. Music starts at 8pm.
My favorite Country Duo- “Make It a Double” are becoming regulars at the McAlester VFW on Sat 24th. Dave and Connie play the right songs for the occasion. The dance floor stays full. Just a short ride and it is worth it. Music starts at 7pm.
Last and prob latest, on Friday 23rd, “The Midwestern Playboys” will be at The Cherokee Casino for the 11 pm show. This is a great opportunity to hear this great 3 piece, mostly Country band and try your luck. Yes, ya can do both at the same time.
