May 17th is a special day for several good reasons and a couple I’m not so sure about. But my personal favorite is “World Cherry Cobbler Day”! The 2nd pick is “World Fiddler’s Day”. Or to quote Charlie Daniels- “If you’re gonna play in Texas, ya gotta have a fiddle in the band”.

Now, There are many great fiddlers from our area. Too many to mention really. Just off the top of my head- Lazy Harris/Wister, J.C. Mitchell/ Monroe?, Hank Abbott/Poteau, Gene Gassaway/Huntington. Most of these fiddlers started playing when they were the only musical instrument in the barn dance. Nothing like a 22 minute round of “Boil them cabbage down” to gett’em out there swinging their pardners. Do-Si-Do!

But, Shady Point claims one of the best, Sandra Dismuke-Coyle. This lady has style, show, sound and presence. NEVER still and never a dull moment when Sandra plays with the “Asphalt Cowboys”. They are touring several nites a month on the Casino circuit and large events in a purty big loop of States. Sometimes they pop up where Billy Hoffman might be playing. Let’s hope they can get back to Poteau soon. Awesome show! Speaking of Billy Hoffman, “Sierra Bravo”- Billy and Scot Francis, will be playing for the Poteau HS Alumni Reunion dance in August. He’s an alumni and it will be an awesome evening. More info in the Alumni paper “The Static” and Poteau Daily News- Oklahoma Welcome and Heavener Ledger Online. Make plans to preregister and bring all your friends.

J.B. Lloyd is hosting the 1st Annual Musicians Reunion on Sat. 17th. It’s gonna be on Dewey Ave. Downtown Poteau in The Two Twenty Event Park. Just a heads up- Bring your own chairs. Foldups or lawn chairs. Schedule of bands- 1pm- “The Stagemasters”/ 2:30pm- “Earl Hearon band”/ 4 pm- “Rick Ward and Wildhorse”/ 5:30- “Billy Hoffman and J.B Lloyd”/ 7 pm- “Larry Taylor and The Tribadours”/ 8 pm “The Nightlife Band”. Awesome lineup. Lotta time to see and hear your favorites. See ya there.
