There are celebrations in nearly every city and town in our area. I am proud to be an American. Pray every day for the leaders of this country. I pray for peace and unity. But it all starts with me. I have to think of others, show kindness and love those that need it. And love those that may not deserve it. Just think, if ya love the ones that hate you, it drives them crazy and might break thru their icy exterior. So get out and enjoy this holiday. Make it a family affair. If you’re without family, find a group that makes you feel wanted. There’s parades, food, fun and Live Music. Make some memories.
Last week I spoke my mind about addiction in our area. Mostly dark negative opinions on the subject. But when ya see the dark underbelly of that lifestyle, in person or thru recovery meetings, it’s hard to describe it to normies. But every family has witnessed the devastation caused by addiction and feel helpless in trying to give relief to a loved one addicted. There is hope! Howe 633 recovery has been helping for several years and their victories in their year long program have been encouraging. There is also a 633 in Spiro. 911 Emergency Community Outreach/Poteau has helped families and those in need with coats in the Winter and a cooling station in the heat of Summer. They have meetings all week. New Beginnings/Poteau has meetings that are Faith-based Christ centered gatherings. Br. Sam has built a strong message of Hope for the Heavener area at Freedom House. Recovery for families and individuals that have lost their way. The Covenant Church/Poteau has a long running recovery meeting on Thursday nite. It CR fashioned and works outta scripture and the 12 steps to carry the message. There are 2 NA meetings, Monday nite Poteau Hardcore Group and Tues. nite Howe 633 NA group. Come to see how some have used the program to repair relationships with family, friends and neighbors. If I can do it- you can, too. AA has 3 groups in the County. Poteau Unity group meets in Faith Community Church of the Nazarene, Spiro Group is the oldest group with 33 years in the same spot- Conveniently located between the Liquor store and the Police station” on Main St.Spiro. Talihina has New Start aa and Second Chances na. Never give up on an addict or alcoholic, never stop praying for them and sometimes a Higher Power will help make changes. Lots of info on line and fb for all these meetings. Get the Find a Meeting app on cellphone. And I probably missed a couple. Love them til they can love themselves.
Man I git long winded at times and forgot to say Happy 4th of July. Have a great weekend. Live Music this weekend: Starts off on Thursday 3rd at the Pocola Senior Citizens Center. “Backporch Country” will start at 10 am and play til Noon. Good music, good food and nicest folks that you’d ever wanna meet. Check’em out. The Waldron Pickin’ in the Round is also on Thursday 3rd and takes place at 6pm. Lots of music, sing-a-longs and surprises. Never know who might turn up. Rita and Gregg Shively invite you to join in the fun. It at S. 96 Main st. in Waldron.. See ya there. Connie and Dave Abbott, also known as “Make It a Double” will be playing at The Mighty Crab on Rodgers Ave. Sat. 5th. Great food, nice environment and awesome Music. Connie and Dave offer some of the best Country music. I highly recommend it. Music from 6-9pm. Muldrow City Limits celebrates the 4th of July on Sat. 5th with a Red, White and Blue dance and the decorations are always awesome in the hall. It’s Sat. 5th on the regular night. AND it is a potluck so bring your favorite side dish. An awesome America Tribute, so join in and dress in your best Red, White and Blue attire. The music will be by “Schyler and Company”. Great Country dance tunes, awesome band and lots of friends on the dance floor. Oh, What a night! Starts at 7 pm. “The Libby Starkes Band” will be on The Deck in Cookson Ok. Man, it’s in the Cookson Village which is nearly on the beach at Tenkiller Lake, East side. Libby leads the band thru Country, pop and Rock and has the best show around. It’s on the 5th and starts at 6pm. Great food and awesome atmosphere.
That ain’t all that I got to say but it is almost too long to print, so I’m gonna stop. Lots of 4th celebrations on Friday Nite- Wister Lake July 5th, Heavener Runestone and Downtown Potea July 4th.
