message from Poteau Mayor Scotty White

I’d like to take a minute to address some questions and concerns and give a few comments.

I have had several calls from local businesses that have expressed their concerns about Poteau people traveling to near by cities to eat in restaurants that Lobbys are still, do hair, tan, workout etc. etc.

This is very disheartening to me, to fight COVID-19 it will take sacrifice from all, we have business owners that are putting EVERYTHING on the line to protect our City, families, your children and mine. To think we are showing them our appreciation by taking business to another city and exposing ourselves that much more! We are better than that.

Today I have called most Mayors and city leadership in LeFlore County, asking them to get on board and make tough decisions for the safety of LeFlore Co.

Thank you Mayor Brooks at Wister, closing restaurant Lobbys tonight.

Also I want to that the owners of Joes Place for agreeing to take action tonight as well.

I’ve also contacted Wal-Mart and Harps hoping to see steps taken for limiting people and trying to take innovative approaches to keep a safer environment for consumers.

I understand that what we have in place is not perfect and is not ideal by any means for many of you that are sacrificing your lively hood. You are the heros in this battle.

The Governor’s “Safer at Home Plan” went into effect today for Confirmed Case counties in Oklahoma. It puts the rest of the state at the same bar we currently are as a city. With multiple cases in Sebastian Co. Ar. and in neighboring Sequoyah County Ok, I believe we are where we need to be!!!

Lots of people asking about essential jobs, we will go by the state/CDC recommendation which can be seen at www.criticalworker.ok.gov. You can even request that your position or job be reviewed to be put on the list.

Please understand we are in this fight together, and the battle plan is staying out in front of COVID-19 being proactive not reactive. Reach out to ones that you know are putting it all on the line have zero income coming in, give a helping hand if you are able!

Stay positive Poteau, we will overcome together!!

Pray for your city, country and fellowman!!

God Bless you all,

Scotty White
