According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, three people were injured in an accident that occurred on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at approximately 7:54 am on US-271 south of 401st Ave, approximately 3.1 miles from Talihina in LeFlore County.
According to the report, a 2013 Dodge Journey, driven by Brandon Battiest 28, from Talihina, was southbound on US-271 with his passenger, Sylvia Lawrence 24, from Wilburton, crossed the center lane and struck a 2005 KW Dump Truck, driven by Jimmy Adams 47, from Talihina, head on.
The Dodge Journey continued southbound before departing roadway to the right and rolling one quarter turn coming to rest on the driver’s side. The dump truck continued northbound before departing the roadway to the left, striking a tree before catching on fire.
Battiest was transported to Baptist Health in Ft. Smith, Arkansas by LeFlore County EMS with head and arm injuries. He was treated and released.
Lawrence was transported to Choctaw Nation Hospital in Talihina by LeFlore County EMS with back injuries and was treated and released.
Adams was transported to Choctaw Nation in Talihina by LeFlore County EMS with leg injuries.
The accident was investigated by OHP, Talihina fire department, Leflore County EMS, Leflore County Sheriff’s office and Choctaw Nation Light horse.
