WILBURTON, Okla. – Twenty-six GEAR UP teachers and administrators from partner schools recently traveled to Seattle, WA, to attend FISH! For Schools training. Attendees spent two days exploring ways to connect with students and be the best part of themselves. The training covered the four practices of FISH! These are To Be There, Play, Make Their Day, and Choose Your Attitude. These are practices they can take back to their school and implement in the classroom.
The program helps educators create richer, more effective learning cultures. Providing professional development to teachers throughout the life of the grant ensures the information and practices provided continue and are sustained after the GEAR UP grant ends.
Eastern is in its fourth year of the $17 million federal GEAR UP grant and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years. GEAR UP is a federal initiative to increase the number of low-income students who enter and successfully transition into postsecondary education.
