The Back Roads History Tours have scheduled 2 tours this month:

Friday October the 23rd.  We will leave the Downtown Visitors Center located at 201 1st St. Talihina Okla. at 9:00 am and explore the Holson Valley, Page, Stapp Zoe, Haw Creek, Forester, Hodgen, and Summerfield area.  Legends have it that is a gold mine in this area.  No information if any gold was found there.  Also a camp for the CCC Workers was located in the area. The foliage should be beautiful and there are many historic places along the way.  We will eat lunch at the Southern Bell in Heavener another interesting place.

There are several old churches, cemeteries, homes, barns, buildings and other locations that have a lot of history.

Saturday the 24th we will leave the Center again at 9:00 am and go to Red Oak and from there travel the Butterfield Stage line from the Norris Community all the way to Skullyville near Spiro. Along the way there is the Edwards Store which was a rest and food stop for the stage, there will be a guided tour at this location.  The Edwards Store is the only original structure located on the Oklahoma portion of the stage route.  There are several cemeteries two more stage stops the last being Skullyville which has one of the oldest cemeteries in Okla. And the historic organization of the Choctaw Nation.
