OKLAHOMA CITY – Rep. Rick West, R-Heavener, this week recognized Bradley Jager, of Poteau, with a citation. Jager was selected by the Oklahoma Developmental Disabilities Council to participate in the 20th Annual Oklahoma Youth Leadership Forum held at the State Capitol.

The weeklong leadership development program is for Oklahoma high school juniors and seniors with disabilities. It focuses on advocacy and leadership, independent living, higher education, career development options, as well as the Oklahoma legislative process. Student delegates work in groups to develop personal leadership plans and identify resources necessary to achieve their plans.

The key to the success of the Oklahoma Youth Leadership Forum is “leadership by example” as student delegates learn from adults with disabilities who have faced similar challenges as the students.

West attended a lunch with program participants and watched a mock legislative session.

“This forum is a really good deal, very special,” West said. “I’m glad I got to come and see this and meet Bradley who is from my House district. He’s just a phenomenal young man who has a very bright future ahead of him.”

Jager is a senior a Poteau High School and class president. His project presented during the forum is to have a full-time librarian at Poteau High School.

“Oklahoma’s future is held in the hearts and minds of the state’s greatest resource, its young people, and Bradley is a shining example of this bright future, making his family, community and state proud,” West said. “He is an exemplary young person who is excelling and shaping the future of our state.”

Rick West serves District 3 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. His district includes part of LeFlore County.
