The Cameron Yellowjackets archery season is off to a good start. The middle school team finished 3rd and the high school team finished 4th in a tough season opener at North Rock Creek School in Shawnee on Saturday.
8th grader Jake Cauthen was the middle school division male champion. 7th grader Anistyn Marrow medaled 3rd female in the middle school division.
Several Yellowjackets posted personal best scores and both teams exceeded their pre-season goals.
“We have a few veteran archers and several beginners on both teams. We’re very proud of where they finished overall. Anxious to see what these kids can accomplish this year,” said Hank Austin, coach. “It’s exciting to see their enthusiasm and to have so much support from our administration, Board, staff, parents and community,” Austin said.
Superintendent John Long said, “I have been in other schools that have had an archery program and saw the benefits it provided. So we decided to promote the program to a level that would best benefit our students. Three years ago it got off to a good start but once we got Coach Austin onboard the program is moving to a higher level. His dedication, knowledge and attitude towards the program is second to none. I am thankful for what he has brought to the students of Cameron School.”
The Yellowjackets have a competitive tournament schedule ahead. They compete next at Zion on December 1st.
