Carl Albert State College is proud to announce that Daniel Smith, Micky Solomon, and Pat Broadwater are the recipients of awards from the Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges.
Receiving the Outstanding Professional Staff award is Micky Solomon. Solomon serves as the Program Administrator for the NASNTI Grant. The Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institutions (NASNTI) STEM Grant is a federally funded program designed to create three new STEM Programs, Strengthen Math Support, and Strengthen STEM Support for CASC students. Services include free tutorial assistance in intermediate algebra and college algebra, work-force seminars, career assistance through job-board access.

“Under the direction of Micky Solomon, the previous and current NASNTI (Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institutions) grants have flourished,” said Marc Willis, Vice President of Academic Affairs. “Her attention to detail and drive ensure the success of the grant initiatives and a positive outcome for CASC students, faculty, and staff.
Solomon has been employed at CASC for nine years. She holds two Master’s degrees- a Master of Education degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and a Master of Arts in Management from American Public University.
“Micky epitomizes efficiency, dedication, and innovation,” said President Jay Falkner. “Micky’s ability to execute projects and streamline processes for the best possible outcome is unmatched. We are fortunate to have her.”

Daniel Smith, a CASC employee for eleven years, is being honored with the Outstanding Faculty Member award. Smith earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Northeastern State University, and a MBA from Oklahoma Baptist University. He is an instructor for the division of businesses and technology.
The recommendation of Daniel Smith for the Outstanding Faculty Award came quite easily from his supervisor,” said Willis. “His personality, depth of knowledge, and sense of compassion translate well within the classroom; his popularity with the students and his peers is reflected each semester during planning and enrollment.”
“Dan is the type of instructor who goes above and beyond for our students when many don’t realize it,” said Falkner. “His dedication to our students and ultimately our institution is one of his many amazing qualities. I personally hold Dan in high regard, and am so proud of him.”
Receiving the Outstanding Support Staff Award is Pat Broadwater, Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and as the ADA Coordinator. Pat has served Carl Albert for seven years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from OU CLS.

“Pat Broadwater is a vital member of the CASC family,” said Willis. “Not only does she keep the academic side of college organized, motivated, and on track, but she has often lifted burdens for the college as a whole. It is a pleasure to have her skills and efforts recognized by this group.”
“Pat has a great ability to facilitate multiple projects and meet numerous deadlines, all with ease,” said Falkner. “Her talents are well-utilized by her department, and our students reap the benefit.”
Smith and Solomon were recognized at the OACC Annual Conference on October 28, 2021, at Rose State College.
Broadwater was recognized at the OACC Conference site at Seminole State College on October 29, 2021.
