Poteau, OKLAHOMA – It was two years ago when Poteau City Council made the tough decision to close the pool because of some much-needed repairs.
The pool was closed because it was leaking.
Now, two years later, the pool is fixed, but it wasn’t in enough time to open it for the summer of 2018, because contract work on the pool began July 9th and took about two weeks to complete.
Since that would push the time line around the end of July and with school starting in August, the council made the decision to hold off opening the pull this summer, but since the pool had to filled with water to see if the problem was fixed the city decided to open the free of charge for the Labor Day holiday weekend.
According to Poteau Mayor, Jeff Shockley, the pool opened on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. “We had around 125 visitors on Saturday, and close to 150 on Sunday.”
The pool is open now on the Labor Day until 5pm.
Jessica Cripps is at the counter to greet everyone and lifeguards are on duty.
