Welcome to my weekly commissioners’ corner. We received much-needed rain this past weekend throughout the county. This helped cool the temperatures down.

We completed the Pocahontas/Coal Mine Road project this past week. As with any project oil and loose gravel will be present for a few weeks. Thank you to those who were mindful of our workers during this project when driving through this area, as with any project any increase in speed can cause accidents. We appreciate your help in avoiding these incidents.

Patch crews will also return to work this week. Please be mindful of them on the highways as well.

This summer we have been able to do three complete rounds through the county brush hogging. This week we will be replacing some tinhorns throughout the district that have started causing some roads to fall in on certain roads. Blade hands will be back on schedule throughout their roads, with the rain adding the moisture back into the roads that was much needed.

The goal is that within the next week or two we will begin on the 2024 REAP grant we received back in May of this year. The grant was awarded to work on Calhoun Road.

We have had calls this week about the plans concerning several areas of concern on Coggins Road and as to why we have not replaced the bladed areas with asphalt. Until the private contractors’ dump trucks are done hauling materials in that area any asphalt laid will only cause more issues than good. When this project is finished, we will then be able to fix the road with asphalt as well.

I have already started the paperwork to fill out and apply for the 2025 REAP grant, due by the end of August.

As with all the districts in Leflore County, we do not have a District Facebook page but if you have a concern about roads in District 2 please call the shop at (918)647-3600 or email us at leflored2@leflorehwy.com, Our hours are Monday through Thursday 6:30 A.M.- 4:30 P.M.
