Hello, my name is Josh Blaylock, your District 2 County Commissioner. Welcome to my weekly commissioners’ corner.

As most of you know I took over office on February 1st for retiring Commissioner Cody Covey. I am seeking election on August 27th, please save the date.

My goal is that this becomes an ongoing article, not just a campaign piece. Since February 1st I have been able to attend meetings at the capitol with fellow commissioners from across the state and other officials from state-level agencies. These meetings provide information on grant opportunities and alternative funding resources.

Since in office district 2 has expanded its workforce from 13 employees to 24. This provides the opportunity to accomplish more jobs during the week than before. For example, specific patch crews, blade crews, brush hog crews, and more. This enables them to concentrate on a specific job.

We recently finished a R.E.A.P Grant project on Hicks Chapel Road for approximately $70,000. Our next major road project is Pocahontas Road (aka Mine Road). This road is done in part to funding by Farrell Cooper and labor by District 2. We hope to have it chipped by the first week in August. As with any road project, weather is always a factor.

On Monday, July 15th we opened sealed bids for a new bridge on Bud French Road crossing Gap Creek. The bid was awarded to The Railroad Yard out of Stillwater, Oklahoma who also built the last bridge on Bud French Road, going over Lost Poteau.

As with all the districts in Leflore County, we do not have a District Facebook page but if you have a concern about roads in District 2 please call the shop at (918)647-3600 or email us at leflored2@leflorehwy.com, Our hours are Monday through Thursday 6:30 A.M.- 4:30 P.M.
