According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a double fatality accident occurred June 14, 2018 at approximately 11:52 am on United States Highway 59 approximately half a mile north of Heavener in LeFlore County.
According to the report a 2000 Chevy pickup, driven by Don Mayes, 50, from Gore, was traveling northbound on US59 and a 2007 Chevy pickup, driven by Walter Alexander Fanning, 25, from Miami, Oklahoma was traveling southbound on US59, when Mayes went left of center and struck Fanning head on.
Both Mayes and Fanning were pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident was investigated by OHP, the Heavener Police Department, Howe Police Department and the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office.
