According to a report by Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a personal injury collision occurred January 12 at approximately 6:58 AM on United State Highway 59, .2 mile south of SH-83 approximately 1 mile north of Howe in Leflore County.
Dustin May of Heavener was northbound driving a 2000 Honda, Wiley Benton from Roland was southbound driving a 2003 Jeep. The Honda went left of center and struck the Jeep.
May was pinned for approximately 43 minutes before being freed by Poteau Fire Department. He was transported by Leflore County EMS to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, with head injuries and admitted in stable but critical condition.
Benton was transported by Leflore County EMS to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, with head and trunk injuries where he was reated and released..
The accident was investigated by OHP with assistance from Leflore County Sheriff’s Office, Leflore County EMS, Poteau Fire Department.
