LeFlore County Historical Society is pleased to announce the newest exhibit at the LeFlore County Museum at Hotel Lowrey.
The exhibit is a collaborative effort between the EAST Initiative program at Kiamichi Technology Center in Poteau and the LeFlore County Museum at Hotel Lowrey.
The exhibit will feature the Choctaw Nation and its Faith, Family and Culture values.
The students have done the research, including interviews with Chief Batton, and Dr Ian Thompson, Tribal Preservation Officer. They designed the exhibit, printed the information and will present their exhibit to the public on April 30th at 6:00 PM. The exhibit will be on display at the LeFlore County Museum at Hotel Lowrey for the next two months.
This exhibit was possible through funding from the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street program – Key Ingredients. Kelly Falkner, EAST Facilitator stated “This has been a unique opportunity for my students to collaborate with community partners from many different career paths.
The project team has worked hard to research and create both the exhibit here in LeFlore County, and a digital exhibit to be submitted to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. We are thankful to have been selected for this national grant and to have local community partners who are so supportive of EAST at Poteau KTC and education.
Our vision is to honor our area’s unique Choctaw culture and represent our state and its people in a way that embodies the Chahta Spirit.”
