Poteau, OKLAHOMA – It was a bittersweet day for Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau as the LeFlore County Hospital Authority Board accepted the retirement of Mary Helen Lucas as a board member.
Lucas who has worked tirelessly since her appointment to the board from the LeFlore County Commissioners in 2008, to ensure that the community served by EOMC receive the highest quality of care by ensuring that regulatory compliance and excellence in customer service were always the focus of the EOMC team.
Lucas has recently moved to the Dallas area to be closer to family plans to continue doing volunteer work was given a surprise going away party during the board’s monthly board meeting on Tuesday.
Employees, friends and her children, Lacey Lucas and Larry Lucas gathered in the OB Department wing to honor Lucas as the real surprise came – EOMC renamed the Women and Children Department at EOMC as the MARY HELEN LUCAS WOMEN AND CHILDREN CENTER in honor of her years of service to EOMC.

Mary Helen Lucan Women and Children Center
1. WHEREAS, Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center (EOMC) is an entity of the LeFlore County Hospital Authority (LCHA) consisting of a hospital and clinics that provide health care to patients in the community; and,
2. WHEREAS, the LeFlore County Board of Commissioner appoint Governing Board members to serve on the LeFlore County Hospital Authority; and,
3. WHEREAS, Mary Helen Lucan has faithfully served as a Governing Board member since 2008 and has elected to retire from her position effective December 17, 2019; and,
4. WHEREAS, during her tenure, Mary Helen Lucas has worked tirelessly to ensure that the community served by EOMC receive the highest quality of care by ensuring that regulatory compliance and excellence in customer service were always the focus of the EOMC team.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE LEFLORE COUNTY HOSPITAL AUTHORITY, THAT:
SECTION 1. The LeFlore County Hospital Authority authorizes EOMC Administration to rename the Women and Children Department at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center as the MARY HELEN LUCAS WOMEN AND CHILDREN CENTER in honor of her years of service to EOMC.
SECTION 2. This resolution takes effect immediately upon its adoption.
