On July 26,2019 at 1142 am, Poteau Police officers were dispatched to the north end of the Cavanal Scenic Expressway (CSE) on a call of a vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lanes. While officers were responding, they received updated information that an injury motor vehicle collision had occurred in the northbound lanes of the Cavanal Scenic Expressway just south of the North Broadway/Ben Klutts Drive off ramp. LeFlore County EMS and Poteau Fire Department were also dispatched.

Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that a red 2000 Ford F-150, driven by Bobby Joe Farrar 74 of Cameron, OK, was traveling southbound in the inside northbound lane of the CSE south of the North Broadway/Ben Klutts Drive off ramp. A black 2008 Chevrolet 3500 pickup hauling an unloaded gooseneck trailer, driven by Grant Hill Jr. 57 of Plumerville, AR , was traveling northbound in the inside northbound lane of the CSE further south of the North Broadway/Ben Klutts Drive off ramp.

The driver of the black Chevrolet saw the red Ford and swerved right to enter the outside northbound lane. The black Chevrolet remained partially in the inside northbound lane and the red Ford collided with it, driver’s side to driver’s side. The red Ford continued south and collided with the gooseneck trailer.

Hill, the driver of the black Chevrolet, was transported by LeFlore County EMS to Mercy Fort Smith with complaint of injury. Farrar, the driver of the red Ford, was pronounced deceased on scene and extricated by the Poteau Fire Department.

Poteau Police Department Investigators responded to the scene and are working in conjunction with an Investigator from the State of Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office.
