According to a press release from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a fatality collision occurred on April 24, 2019 at approximately 9:36am on State Highway 100, approximately 9.4 miles south of Tahlequah in Cherokee County.
The accident occurred when a 2010 Nissan Versa driven by Chase O’Neal 20, of Stilwell who was traveling westbound on State Highway 100, attempted to pass on a curve in a marked No Passing Zone, a 2006 Dodge Charger driven by Joyce Hawk, 54 of Stilwell who was also traveling westbound on State Highway 100.
O’Neal, was struck by a 2015 Peterbuilt driven by Danniel Thayer, 44, of Porter. Debris from the accident struck the Dodge Charger.
Chase O’Neil was transported by Cherokee Nation EMS to Northeastern Health Systems and then transported by Life-Flight to Saint Francis Hospital and was admitted in critical condition with head and trunk internal injuries.
His passenger Jimmy Oneal 62, of Evansville, AR was pronounced deceased at the scene by Cherokee Nation EMS.
The accident was Investigated by OHP, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, Cherokee Nation Marshall Service, Cookson Fire Department and Keys Fire Department.
