Residents must call the Poteau Chamber 918-647-9178 and leave information that will be given to be scheduled by the City of Poteau.

Daylight Savings Time has changed, Spring is in the air. It is that time to gather family, friends, neighbors and co-workers, club members, church members or just yourself to participate in the 16th Annual City-Wide Trash Off! FREE food is provided and some camaraderie among team-mates, and a little friendly competition for awards, makes the work fun for the day.

This year Volunteers are needed more than ever as the inclement weather and the Oklahoma high winds and heavy rains have trash blown and running in ditches all over our great City. “We as residents need to take more precautions in taking care of our trash. Every day I see social media post from residents and church groups that are out trying to keep their roadway clean to see it all back again in a couple of weeks. Those that help take care of Cavanal Hill have witnessed first-hand people throwing trash out on the route to the top. Just last week residents were out trying to pick up a street just off the by-pass. We just need to stop throwing it out and be better stewards of our community”, states Karen Wages, CEO Poteau Chamber of Commerce.

The Beautification Committee launch the “Color Your City Poster Contest” this week. Posters to color can be picked up at the Chamber Office 9 am-5 pm Monday – Friday. The deadline to complete poster is April 15th for judging.

This year’s event is April 17th; the date is set in conjunction with the state Trash Off day each year. Check-in will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the parking lot in front of Park Center the Old Bowling Alley. Donuts and juice will be available at check-in provided by Dee at Cakes & More. McDonalds will be providing sausage and biscuits. The Smokin Pig will be grilling and serving hot dogs for lunch beginning at 10:45 as groups return with loads of trash. Each participant will receive a ticket for a free hot dog, chips, and a drink. Awards will be given after the teams have returned and bags have been tallied.

There are several ways you can help make this event a great success! Organize a team from your business, club, sports team, church, family, or friends. Or just participate as an individual. If you cannot get out-doors to help, pray for good weather and safety for all the participants. If you are interested in helping “Keep Poteau Beautiful” call the chamber office.
