But First ! Helpful Hint # 1 – Don’t forget , Valentine’s Day is just around the corner ! If ya forget a birthday , ya sleep on the sofa . If ya forget an anniversary , it’s the dawghouse for you ! Don’t remember the age or forget how long ya been hitched ! BUT , if ya get yer sweetheart a card/box of choclates/candlelight beans and cornbread dinner , it will melt the ice from the heart that ya love !

It’s easy for me to give relationship advice being a confirmed bachelor because I have made most of these mistakes and more . But I do know that the two things couples will fuss about are money and temperature ! Where to set the thermostat ! You guys know what I’m talking bout ! Don’t git me started on whether the seat goes up or not , And tp roll goes over the top or bottom !

Anyway , there are a couple of Live Music projects in the works that are getting me excited . First , the “Showtime Jamboree” will be at the Pocola Senior Citizens Center – 700 Faye Avenue ! It will be a show and dance in the style of a Branson show . Music will be provided by Oklahoma Moon . These guys were members of the Timekiller Band that played for several years in Downtown Webers Falls at the Showtime Theatre ! It had shows and dances twice a month and one day a month was Open mic Jams with a potluck supper ! Very successful venue in a family friendly environment- NS/ND ! And the only reason that it is still not putting on music shows is bout 8 ft. of Arkansas River water that almost warshed the town of Webers Falls completely away ! The Great Flood of 2019 ! I told ya so I could tell ya that this will be some of the very best regular entertainment in LeFlore Co. ! It will open for the first show on Feb. 26th with music from 7 til 9 pm . And scheduled from that date forward on the 4th Sat. of the Month ! Easy to remember cause it will be the “broke” part of the month , just a few days in front of payday !

The “House band” will Oklahoma Moon – Floyd Adams , David Love , Doug York and Jimmy Ritchey . They have played steady , even thru the lockdown , at Choctaw and Cherokee casinos , clubs/restaurants in Ft. Smith and any jams or pickings that they could find ! The music is “Country with a capital “C” ! Well rehearsed sets , lots of 3-4 part harmony , country hits from several decades and will feature 3-4 special guest singers and pickers . Awesome music with sometimes funny jokes from the band , a guest announcer (Lord , I hope he can bring jokes that are kneeslappers) and drinks and snacks from a concession stand and maybe a potluck supper now and again ! There will be a 50/50 drawing and a door fee to be determined . It will be a fair price to help cover the cost of putting on the shows that are guaranteed to entertain ! Mark your Calendar and make plans to be there ! Feb. 26th !

Next , The Hank Williams Sr. Tribute Show ! After seeing how well the Haggard Tribute was attended and appreciated , Randy Fennell , musician extraordinaire , began creating interest in this project . I asked for feedback and got several readers that allowed they would be there , front and center ! Everybody loves Luke the Drifter !

When there were regular Open Mics scattered about , somebody was always singing their favorite song by Hank . So Randy began inviting singers to audition and musicians that were available to form a”Drifting Cowboy” band . And it is starting to come together . The timing is perfect . Most established bands are only working once a month , some a lil’ more because Live Music has taken a beating for the last couple years !

Randy has commitments from enough musicians that will play a scheduled show if far enough out to avoid conflict with their regular band . Some play a couple or several instruments and sing , as well ! They are talented , experienced and dependable that their word is their code and the show WILL go on ! I am looking forward to this Tribute . The hope is to make it a traveling show and play a different town every couple of months or at outside events ! Practice will start in Feb. and maybe , a dress rehearsal open to the public to tighten up the presentation . These guys are local pros at music and all have just been looking for an opportunity like this ! Pickers git kinda cantankerous if they don’t git no stage time ! It will be Grand ! Much more info to follow !

Live Music this weekend – Country Xpress will be at the Ft. Smith Senior Activity Center on Cavanaugh Rd. this Friday the 28th ! Music starts at 7 !

And cross the river in Muldrow , Southern Neon will play for the dancers at I-40 Music and Dance Hall on Sat. the 29th ! Music starts at 7 pm !
