A personal injury collision occurred Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at approximately 5:55 PM on US 59 a quarter mile north of Long Lake Hill Road approximately 2 miles south of Poteau, OK in LeFlore county.
According to the OHP report, Gary Wilkerson, 71, from Hartford, AR was driving a 2016 Chevy Malibu that departed the road to the right. Wenderson overcorrected then departed the road to the left, went down an embankment and hit a tree. Mr. Wilkerson was pinned for approximately 20 minutes before being extricated by the Poteau Fire Department using the Hurst Rescue Tool.
The report also states that Wilkerson has an odor of alcohol and a medical condition. His airbags deployed, but he was not wearing the seatbelt.
The accident was investigated by Trooper Wes Odom with assistance from the LeFlore county detachment of Troop D. Trooper Fernando Cardenas.
