This is the season of the battle of Mother Nature and Outside events with Live Music. A most Courageous effort with only minimum rain delay was last Thursday 4-20 when Grannie’s Nightmare set up, covered up & uncovered several times to maintain the “Show Must Go On”! Then played R&R to fans and rush hour traffic Downtown Poteau.
At one point(Pics to prove it), Brad Sumpter/Grannie’s Nightmare was at the water’s edge after a heavy shower. He was up just past the High Water mark. Johnny Cash sang”How Highs the water, Mama! Now, that might be safe with modern music equipment but it would’ve been sure, sudden Death in the 60’s. Playing on damp Concrete and connecting “lip to microphone” would complete the circuit and result in a split lip. Or at least result in a “Great Gawd Almighty”! I remember a fuse burning out in my Pro 300 Fender Bass Amp and wrapping it in aluminum foil so as not to interrupt the dance. Not recommended or OHSA approved. An Entertainer with any gumption will suffer Rain or Snow- Heat or Cold to perform. And to get paid. No Play/No Pay usually. So far there have been several outside gigs and only a couple of washouts.
Outside events and pickings soon- Crocky’s Cafe in Hackett will open the season with “Brett and Terri” on Sat. 29th. Music starts at 6 pm. La Huertas/Poteau new patio will be open soon with music.
