Had a sitdown with a couple of really good musicians . One the stories started , they were endless ! Unlike the time , of which , there just wadn’t enough ! Sam Harris and Terry Hardcastle have both been subject of articles in the past . And when they got together , they began to remember more gigs and bands that they shared the stage.
Newsbreak 9 pm – The long awaited time has come for the constant “Nesting” and “Heavy-breathing” that are early warning signs of a litter of pups on the way ! Thank God for security cams ! I’m watching from the house , ready to swoop in and help Clover all I can ! I’m boiling water and ripping bedsheets like the directions that Doc on “Gunsmoke” would give ! Gonna set the alarm every hour so I don’t miss anything ! Pics to follow ! ‘NOTHER Newsbreak * Clover and SIX(6) puppies are doing well . My job is warshing the bedclothes !

Anyway Terry and Sam played in the very tight and hard working band called ”Calico” ! In the pic , Terry held a 1974 20th anniversary Les Paul Custom . It is white with Gold trim . Said he bought it at Sigler’s Music from Jimmy Atchison for $1250 . Beautiful instrument ! And in the pic , Sam is holding a sunburst 1966 Fender Jazz Bass . Another guitar that changed the sound of popular music in the 60’s . It still is a workhorse and a favorite on stage and in the studio !
Terry was over for a Baby shower for kinfolk and just on a whim , loaded the Les Paul to show Sam . It just so happens that Sam still owned the Jazz Bass so the guys posed like they did in the Calico promo pic . And just like that , 46 years later , two long time friends were transformed back in time with the same two very special guitars ! Only thing that would have been better was if they had tuned them up and ran thru a few tunes . But Sam had to leave for a gig with the WildHorse Band at Boondocks ! I almost enjoyed the visit as much as they did . The bond that develops between members of a well rehearsed band making music , is more like Brothers . My hats off to both these fine musicians !
And while I am on guitar stories , John Reed has a great one ! The rare instance of playing on a borrowed guitar , returning it when ask , and then gitting it back ! TWENTY-FOUR years later ! His cousin bought a new 1980 Silverburst Les Paul Custom . To his cousin’s misfortune , the guitar caused his early demise when used as a weapon in a fight . A blow to his head with it from the other guy killed him and sometime in the melee , split the headstock . As a memorial , the guitar was restored by the young man’s Mother and later, John was offered the guitar to play on loan . “All in the family” thing ! John played it thru High School and with a need in her church , the Mother asked for the guitar back . John said he was blessed just to have the opportunity to play with the guitar , returned it and kinda lost track of it , after that ! That was in 1994 .

Then in 2018 , a friend told John about a Les Paul that was in the pawnshop that looked a lot like that guitar ! He checked it out and it was certified as his cousin’s guitar by the broken and repaired headstock . After 24 years , John has the Silverburst Les Paul Custom back in his hands ! Great story with a very happy ending ! Pics in 1994 and 2018 will be on Facebook .
