Carl Albert State College is honored to announce the establishment of the Jeff Shockley Memorial Leadership Scholarship at CASC.  This scholarship was made possible by Matt Webb and the Webb family to honor the leadership legacy of the late Jeff Shockley, former Poteau mayor, real estate agent, and dynamic leader. Shockley passed away on May 16, 2020.

Jeff Shockley graduated from Poteau High School and attended CASC.  He was elected in April 1999 to the office of Mayor of Poteau after serving 6 years as a Councilman.  During his tenure as mayor, he was involved locally, regionally, statewide, and internationally by serving on numerous boards and committees.  Shockley was also the driving force in acquiring the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center and Patrick Lynch Public Library among other projects in Poteau.

He was awarded Oklahoma Mayor of the Year by the Mayors Council of Oklahoma. In addition, he was selected as Poteau’s Man of the Year in 2007 and 2013 and presented with the 2019 Business Excellence Stewardship Award by the Poteau Chamber of Commerce.  Shockley was instrumental in heightening the relationship between CASC and the community and received the CASC Alumni Association Wall of Honor Service Award in 2019.

Shockley was known for his charisma, communication skills, integrity, enthusiasm, networking ability, talent for inspiring others, servanthood, and the impact he had on the growth and success of Poteau.

Through the Jeff Shockley Memorial Leadership Scholarship, Shockley’s legacy will live on by empowering students, who exemplify his commitment to leadership, to achieve their educational goals. This scholarship will be awarded to LeFlore County high school graduates attending CASC who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated leadership in school and the community.

Mandy Roberts, CASC Development Foundation Executive Director, stated that others may honor Jeff Shockley’s legacy through this scholarship with memorial contributions made payable to the CASC Development Foundation, 1507 S. McKenna, Poteau, OK 74953.  The CASC Development Foundation is a 501(c)3 corporation.
