John Wilson of Heavener Recognized as Veteran of the Week Featured

OKLAHOMA CITY – John S. Wilson, of Heavener, was recognized as the Veteran of the Week in the Oklahoma House of Representatives this week hosted by Rep. Rick West, R-Heavener.

Wilson served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant after serving two years, 11 months and 28 days, during which time he was awarded a number of decorations, medals and citations, including the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal, with three Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal; Air Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge; and Expert Rifle Marksman.

“I want to thank Staff Sergeant Wilson for his service to our nation and his sacrifice on behalf our liberties and our way of life,” West said. “It was an honor to recognize him on the House floor.”

A citation was read for Wilson, and he was presented with a flag flown over the Capitol in his honor.
